Mary Ann Angell
Mary Ann Angell was the loving and faithful second wife of Brigham Young. She was born on June 8th, 1803 in Seneca, Ontario County, New York. Soon after, her family moved to North Providence, Rhode Island. She was born into a family that was a "God-fearing" people and eventually they first joined the Free Will Baptist Church, where Mary taught as a Sunday School teacher. Later on in her life, she met the man of God that she had always had a desire to meet and she married Brigham Young on February 18, 1834. Since Brigham's first wife had died, she took it upon herself to take care of the two children that she had left behind with Brigham. Mary was wife to a great leader of the LDS church, and therefore was known for her faith, courage, and patience. She was also the first wife of Brigham, who had to have faith and trust in her husband's decision to follow the Lord's commandment of practicing polygamy during these times. He faith was tried many times during her life. Many times she was left to fend for herself and her children as their father was away a lot taking care of church affairs. She joined Brigham and the rest of many of the Saints of the church on their journey from Nauvoo to Utah. I admire my fourth great-grandma's courage and her faith in enduring through the many trials with President Brigham Young. I hope that I someday I can have as much courage, strength, patience, diligence, and faith as she did.
