Emma Elizabeth Morgan Young
Emma Elizabeth Morgan Young is my Grandpa's mother. Since my Grandpa Young is such an amazing man, I can't help but think how amazing his mother must have been. Emma Elizabeth Morgan was born on January 7th, 1906 in Alta, Teton, Wyoming. She married Brigham Rigby Young in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 25th, 1927. They had seven beautiful children together, one of them being my Grandpa Young. She lived a life as a mother who taught her children and was a great example to them. I am inspired by some of the things that I have learned while researching about her. She was a women of perseverance and of love and kindness for those around her. For example, one of the things that she did was feed the poor hobos that would come to their door asking for food. She would simply make them a plate of food and let them eat it on their porch under the watchful eyes of the family's german shepherd, Old Pal. She was also a very hardworking women, who also taught her children to work hard. At one time, their family would help their father, Brigham Rigby Young with a custodian job at a schoolhouse, where Emma would often supervise to make sure the jobs would be completed properly. She was a great teacher of her children and also to others, as well, as she taught in a school in Provo, UT for some time before she was married. The Great Depression was one of the big events that happened during her life, and in the early 1930's her family lived in California where her husband worked for a company for $1,000 a year. But, Brigham, being a more independent sort of man, eventually quit the job and moved back to Alta, WY where he farmed until about 1942. Their family survived within their means during the depression years, and lived a happy life. Emma lived a happy life, until she passed away from a prolonged illness in her home on May 12, 1959.
She seemed like she was a great woman who definitely had some hardships in her life, but made the best of those situations. I wish that I could know more stories of her life during the Great Depression and more stories of her religion and faith. I am proud to call her my Great Grandmother and hope that I can be able to carry on the legacy of being such a great mother and grandmother.
