~A CLOSER LOOK!~
This is a picture of Emma Elizabeth Morgan Young (my Great-Grandmother) during the Great Depression. Although these times were hard for many Americans, they were actually some of the best times, economically, for Emma and her family. Because Emma's husband, Brigham, worked for the Pacific Fruit and Produce Company in California where the Depression had not hit as hard, they were paid well and had enough money to get them through those dark times.

Throughout history, there have been many events that have affected and changed the lives of people in America. As people try to achieve their own dreams and succeed in this country, their negative circumstances are usually one of the only things that keep them from their goals. The Great Depression was a great time of distress and economic hardship for Americans in the 1930’s. It started after the stock market crashed in October of 1929, which was later known to be called "Black Friday," and ended when World War II started and helped kick American industry into high gear in 1939. Between 1929 and 1939, though, times were hard and the economy in America was in a low spot that it had never been before (Borade). Many were without employment, which led to loss of money, which led to loss of home, food, and eventually loved ones. Therefore, the Great Depression was one of the most traumatic and infamous times in United States history.
